A GUIDE FOR EDITORS

Move a manuscript into peer review

Initial checks, section editor delegation and reviewer assignments.

Back to all guides

Journal requirements and available actions depend on your assigned role and the journal's configured workflow.

01

Complete editorial checks

Open the manuscript from Manuscript Queue. Check the submitted details and files. Use the available initial-check tools as appropriate and record your editorial assessment.

02

Choose who manages the review

Complete the initial check when ready. Manage peer review yourself or assign an authorised section editor to coordinate the review. The final editorial decision remains with the editor.

03

Select reviewers and files

Browse reviewers, inspect profiles and select the reviewers to invite. Choose the existing manuscript or upload the version to share. For double-blind review, check the document and file properties for identifying information.

04

Follow progress and decide

Track invitation responses and review deadlines. Read reports and attachments before recording a decision. When requesting corrections, provide clear comments and select the files the author should receive.
